This building was not only unique in the architecture used to extend and expand on top of an existing office building but also selective in the materials and fixtures used aiming at discerning clientele. By expanding out to one side and extending to the rear of the property lot, an atrium space was created whereby each level of apartments surrounded this opening. And this is where UNEX's Finline balustrade style was used extensively to meet the demands of creating a space with distinctive points of difference.

UNEX provided a smart balustrade design to solve the challenge of floating decks and external gutters on the Mount View Village Apartments. Mount View Village is a large, multi-housing development nestled in the heart of Mount Eden, Auckland. The development is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment, and the team at UNEX provided a smart solution for the balustrade requirements.
The building posed some challenges, as it had floating decks and external gutters. The balustrade was required to conceal the gap between the floating and membrane deck. UNEX worked extensively with Shanahan Architects to come up with a solution. An ingenious post fixing, and the suspension of glass down to the bottom of the deck, concealed both the floating deck and the external gutter. Posts were set back from the corners to add another interesting dimension to the project.
For aesthetic purposes, a concealed fixed post was utilised, ensuring that no balustrade fixings were visible. There was no lower rail, which provided clean visual lines, and will keep the balustrades free from obstructions such as leaves. 'Safa-Slat', a horizontal slat balustrade by UNEX, was installed for privacy purposes between courtyards, and also from passers-by.
The end result displays the balustrade expertise that the UNEX team are able to offer. Blending their design flair, in-house engineering expertise and experience with balustrades, UNEX has produced a compliant solution. This addresses all key criteria while enhancing the functional and visual appeal of the Mount View Village.

UNEX Fabricator Opal Glass integrated Unex Safa-Slat Gates with Panorama Frameless Glass Balustrading for this Tauranga property owner. This created a unique architectural difference while still complying with NZ pool safety regulations.
This beautiful new two-story home perched on a ridge falling away into native reserve, required balustrading to work in harmony with it’s stunning design and outlook. Built to maximize all day sun with high volume living areas, this home nestles well into its environment. Extensive glazing showcases the surrounding views, and cleverly used timber accents are a nod to its natural setting. Unex Fabricator Supreme Balustrades have worked on a number of projects with Design Builders and were particularly proud to be involved with this award winning home, specifying, fabricating and installing all the exterior glazed balustrades. Several systems were used as appropriate to the site, with clear glass in some places and tinted glass in others for privacy. Dulux powder coat colour “Karaka” was a unifying theme and works well with natural backdrops and views like this.
Unex Gutter Brackets were ideal for fixing the balustrade of this Wellington residence, without piercing the waterproof membrane of the deck. Located near the Wellington Harbour entrance, this impressive residence displays magnificent views of the surrounding bush and harbour. The owners required a compliant glass balustrade that would complement their outdoor living area, enabling them to enjoy the surrounding landscape.
Like many homes in New Zealand, this residence had waterproof decking, external gutters and a room beneath the deck. Fixing a compliant balustrade would usually be very difficult. The Unex DKG Gutter Brackets were an ideal fixing solution.
The Unex Gutter Bracket was used to fix the vertical balustrade posts to the side of the house. As this fixing system can be used in conjunction with any of the Unex proprietary balustrade systems with posts, the Vetro Semi-Frameless Glass Balustrade was selected.
An Authorised Unex Fabricator, worked closely to coordinate timing with other parties throughout the installation process. The balustrade was mounted behind the drip edge and does not pierce the waterproof membrane, making it a compliant balustrade solution. In addition, the external gutter is fixed underneath, independent of the balustrade, which conceals the balustrade bracket. This makes for added flexibility with the choice of gutter.
The end result is an outstanding compliant balustrade for an impressive residence. DKG Gutter Brackets are a fully compliant and proprietary solution for mounting a balustrade to a waterproof deck, and have been used on hundreds of projects throughout New Zealand in recent years.
