Top Fixing Methods

With Top Fixed methods, the balustrade is attached to the top surface of a substrate. With the Aluma and Eclipse Vogue series, a baseplate is structurally attached to the base of the posts, which in turn is fastened down to the substrate. This method mostly gives the strongest connection to the substrate and gives a tidy appearance when looking towards the building.

Bullet Point FIXING METHOD 4.11.2 (for ALUMA and ECLIPSE VOGUE Balustrades)

TOP-FIXED TO TIMBER EDGE JOIST AND NOG AT 90mm CENTRES

The recommended high strength and economical method of Top Fixing for a timber deck. This method requires an internal nog to be placed at each post position. The fasteners are at 90mm centres, centred on the Edge Joist and nog.

TOP-FIXED TO DOUBLE (90mm) EDGE JOISTS

With fasteners at only 65mm centre’s, this method does not require additional nog’s to be placed. However, it is not as strong as specification 4.11.2, and therefore posts may need to be closer together.

Side Fixing Methods

With Side Fixed methods, the balustrade is attached onto the outside face of a deck or patio and is the most common method for decks that have a waterproof membrane on them. Additionally it does not use any of the deck space, which can be an important consideration on narrow decks and access ways.

Bullet Point FIXING METHOD 4.17.2 (for ALUMA and ECLIPSE VOGUE Balustrades)

SIDE-FIXED TO 90mm TIMBER EDGE JOIST WITH SCREWS

This method provides a stronger connection of the balustrade to the deck than method 4.16.2, as it allows for additional thread engagement of the screws into the double timber joists.

Bullet Point FIXING METHOD 4.17.4 (for ALUMA and ECLIPSE VOGUE Balustrades)

SIDE-FIXED TO 135mm TIMBER EDGE JOIST WITH SCREWS

This method provides an even stronger connection of the balustrade to the deck than method 4.17.2, as it allows for full thread engagement of the screws into a triple timber joists.

Bullet Point FIXING METHOD 4.18.2 (for ALUMA and ECLIPSE VOGUE Balustrades)

SIDE-FIXED TO TIMBER EDGE JOIST WITH BOLTS

Bolts provide greater strength than screws when side fixing to timber. However installation may be more difficult and it is imperative that full access to the inside of the Edge Joist is maintained to enable nut placement.

Glazing Channel Fixing Methods

Bullet Point FIXING METHOD 4.111.2 (for ARENA Balustrades)

#AZM CHANNEL TOP-FIXED TO TIMBER

This method is used to attach the Arena #AZM Channel to the top surface of a timber substrate, for Panorama and Metropolis styles. Note, that a continuous 90mm wide members are required, which should be structurally attached to the supporting structure to provide a stable substrate.

Bullet Point FIXING METHOD F.25.01.AZS (for ARENA AZS® Balustrades)

ARENA AZS® SIDE-MOUNT CHANNEL TO TIMBER WITH BOLTS

Bolts provide a greater strength than screws when side fixing to timber. This method uses a central row of bolts to attach the Arena AZS Side-Mount Channel to the side of the timber substrate. However installation may be more difficult and it is imperative that full access to the inside of the Edge Joist is maintained to enable washer and nut placement.
